Newly crowned IBF super bantamweight champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash”Donaire just got done going the distance with South Africa’s Jeffrey Mathebula and already Top Rank has about finalized  details for his next bout slated for October at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Although many boxing enthusiasts have voiced a desire for the best to face the best and question this most recent match-up, Donaire’s proposed opponent is not one to be overlooked as placed in the bottom bracket of the elite.  Jorge “Travieso” Arce is known as a Mexican gladiator with ring smarts and the heart to go along with it.
Aside from Arce’s recent “no contest” against Puerto Rico’s Jesus Rojas which lasted a little less than 2 rounds and was bound for a classical war, Arce has delivered fan-friendly fights to date and earned his place as a formidable opponent.
The two styles match up nicely and though many view Donaire as the favorite, you can never count one out like Arce who shows up ready to perform.  The clashes most would like to see with the likes of Mares or Rigondeax will have to take a backseat until Donaire gets through this next test assuming negotiations go as scheduled.  Regardless of the outcome, there are several great match-ups in the division and Donaire seems to be inching closer to the inevitable.
