We are less than a month away from WBC 154 pound champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez taking on WBC Silver Welterweight champion Josesito Lopez slated for Mexican Independence Day Weekend September 15th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.  Surprising to some, both fighters are rumored to be on track with a 30 day pre-fight weight of 165.

Alvarez is already seen as the heavy favorite leading up to this bout, being naturally too big and too strong for Lopez who is really a Junior Welterweight moving up two weight classes. Lopez did move up to fight Victor Ortiz in what turned out to be one of the biggest upsets of the year and is now moving up in weight again to take the biggest opportunity of his career against Canelo.

Lopez at this point is biting off more than he can chew but who can blame him. He was literally off the radar until opportunity knocked, allowing him to face Ortiz as the prelude to what was meant to be Ortiz facing Canelo in September. Lopez put an end to those plans and PPV dreams and is now placing his name on the map against one of the most known fighters on the planet in Alvarez and aligning himself for the biggest pay day of his life. A total mismatch on paper, Canelo (should) take out Lopez, even with the grit and determination of Lopez.
