Edwin “La Bomba” Rodriguez Annihilates Jason Escalera in Eight Rounds

MASHANTUCKET, Conn. (September 29, 2012) – The official “Road To Glory” on HBO Boxing After Dark triple-header aired live from the MGM Grand Theater at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut.


The main event featured a 10-round Super Middleweight bout featuring undefeated super middleweight contender Edwin “La Bomba” Rodriguez (22-0, 15 KOs), fighting out of nearby Worcester, Massachusetts, defending his United States Boxing Association (USBA) title against unbeaten power-puncher Jason “Monstruo” Escalera (13-1-1, 12 KOs), of Union City, New Jersey.

Rodriguez took a page out of the Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. book, putting on 20 pounds on the unofficial scale at 186 pounds. The size difference was definitely in favor of Rodriguez and visible from the “Bombas” thrown and delivered on Escalera at the opening of round one.

The onslaught did not stop there as Escalera was clearly out of his league being the recipient of some heavy shots that should have dropped him. On several occasions his legs appeared to be on the verge of collapsing and Rodriguez showed no signs of mercy.

Referee Steve Smoger eventually seen that Escalera had taken enough and was not going to come out of his slump and called a hault to the bout at 12 seconds of round eight after Rodriguez landed a devastating left hook, sending Escalera to the ropes.

Rodriguez now positions himself and his promoter Lou DiBella in a good place to campaign against some bigger names. Time will tell if his performance was enough to warrant the desire from the likes of Kelly Pavlik or Jean Pascal as well as the fans and networks (fans appeared to be on board).

On the under-card Vic Darchinyan won a 10 round Unanimous Decision over Orlando Luis Del Valle and Antonin Decarie TKO’d Alex Perez in six rounds.
