Lee Purdy to face Carson Jones in DecemberLee Purdy will take on tough American fighter Carson Jones at Alexandra Palace in December. The Colchester fighter took the IBF intercontinental welterweight title when he impressively beat previously unbeaten Gumersindo Carrasco in just four rounds. Purdy’s win against Carrasco was arguably a career highlight and he will need to produce a similar display to get past the difficult test Carson Jones will supply. Carson Jones is no stranger to Britain, having boxed here just two months ago when he lost on points to the highly rated Kell Brook. Jones also boasts a good record of 34 wins in 47 fights. Jones is ranked seventh with the IBF and has said:  “I honestly cannot believe he wants to fight me considering what I did to one of his stable-mates.

“I hadn’t heard of Purdy until the fight was offered. I think his style is perfectly suited for me and I will go in there and take him out.”

Despite being unknown by Jones, Purdy, also has an impressive record winning 19 times from 23 fights, with one draw. The English champion has bounced back superbly since losing to Colin Lynes in November of last year. The 25-year-old has won his last three fights by TKO, but the upcoming fight against the American will be his biggest challenge to date. Purdy is a very entertaining fighter and gains respect from a lot of fans for his ‘all or nothing’ style but he may need to box a bit more smartly should he progress from this fight.

One thing is for sure, this fight will be an entertaining one, and well worth watching.
