It is now official, live on Showtime January 19, it will be former junior-welterweight champ Zab Judah taking on fast rising star Danny “Swift” Garcia. The fight will take place in Brooklyn at the new Barclays Center. The question is does this fight make sense?

For Zab Judah this is truly his last shot. He had a previous shot at a major title when he took on Amir Khan in an IBF and WBA unification bout in 2011. Khan was just bigger, stronger and faster than Judah and KO’d him in the 5th round. Many though afterwards that he was done in major bouts after the loss, but with him still having a name in the sport anything can happen. It also helps that the fight will be in Brooklyn, which Judah is a native of and can help sell tickets.

Danny Garcia has made a major name for him self in 2012 and with this fight he is looking to continue trend for 2013. The problem with this fight is Garcia should win this fight with ease and if he doesn’t, his star could dim quick. This will mark three out of his last four fights being against aging or fading stars. It would have made sense to see what happens with Amir Khan in his comeback fight and try to book a rematch there. Or take on all action fighter Lucas Matthysse in a true crowd pleaser but both of those fights have a higher danger level than the Judah fight and that’s why Garcia’s promoter Golden Boy wouldn’t book them.

All in all this could be a solid fight and should provide us with some good action. I believe the younger Garcia will be too much for Judah and will win the fight. But it will not come easy, Judah is a warrior and I see him making Brooklyn proud and representing the hometown crowd well.
